Is organic skin care a part of your daily routine? Do it yourself organic sunscreen – bring it on! No need to worry about whether the compounds listed on the tube are safe or not, you can use natural, organic ingredients to make a sunscreen with an SPF factor of approximately 15.

Sophie Uliano from Gorgeouslygreen.com reveals how to make your own organic sesame sunscreen. It’s simple, safe and kind to your purse.

  1. Melt 2 tablespoons (tbs) of unrefined coconut oil in a bowl (not plastic!), sitting in saucepan of hot water;
  2. Add 1 tbs of shea butter;
  3. Add 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil and 1/2 teaspoon of aloe vera gel;
  4. Heat all ingredients until all the butters and oils have melted and you are left with a liquid mix;
  5. Add 2 teaspoon of zinc oxide (see video for supplier);
  6. Stir until well mixed into oil mixture.

Pour into dark glass jar (Sophie uses a 2 oz jar) – you must use dark glass as the plant oils are light sensitive.

This sunscreen has a shelf life of 6 months. You can keep it in a cupboard, but it’s likely that the sunscreen will remain in liquid form. Alternatively you can keep it in the ‘fridge, where is will retain a firm butter consistency. Simple, safe, organic sunscreen for all budgets.
