How to Make Your Own Organic Sunscreen
Is organic skin care a part of your daily routine? Do it yourself organic sunscreen – bring it on! No need to worry about whether the compounds listed on the tube are safe or not, you can use natural, organic ingredients to make a sunscreen with an SPF factor of approximately 15.
Sophie Uliano from Gorgeouslygreen.com reveals how to make your own organic sesame sunscreen. It’s simple, safe and kind to your purse.
- Melt 2 tablespoons (tbs) of unrefined coconut oil in a bowl (not plastic!), sitting in saucepan of hot water;
- Add 1 tbs of shea butter;
- Add 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil and 1/2 teaspoon of aloe vera gel;
- Heat all ingredients until all the butters and oils have melted and you are left with a liquid mix;
- Add 2 teaspoon of zinc oxide (see video for supplier);
- Stir until well mixed into oil mixture.
Pour into dark glass jar (Sophie uses a 2 oz jar) – you must use dark glass as the plant oils are light sensitive.
This sunscreen has a shelf life of 6 months. You can keep it in a cupboard, but it’s likely that the sunscreen will remain in liquid form. Alternatively you can keep it in the ‘fridge, where is will retain a firm butter consistency. Simple, safe, organic sunscreen for all budgets.
