How to Make Homemade Organic Baby Food
Homemade organic baby food is the best start you can give your baby. It has the highest levels of vitamins and minerals, and because it is organic it won’t contain pesticides or synthetic chemicals. It also works out cheaper than buying pre-prepared organic baby food in jars.
Chef Laura Slaya shows how easy it is to prepare a couple of homemade organic vegetable meals for your baby. These dishes are suitable for weaning, which is around 6 months of age, and beyond. Note there are no additives whatsoever, not even seasoning.
The first recipe from Chef Laura is organic carrot ‘puree’. After washing and topping/ tailing your carrots, just simmer them for 8-10 minutes until soft and tender. Baby carrots are used here in this video, but ‘grown up’ carrots are just as good. Halve and quarter any larger carrots. Transfer to a blender and add a little bit of the water you simmered the carrots in. You can use a handheld or standalone blender. Blend until the carrots and water combine to a light, fluffy consistency.
The second recipe is based on organic sweet potato. Preset your oven to about 200 degrees Centigrade or 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Take one sweet potato and slice it in half. You don’t need to peel the skin off yet. Place it on a baking tray cut side down. Bake in oven for about 30 minutes until the flesh is soft. Remove from oven and simply peel off the skin. Then mash or blend until you have a smooth consitency. You can also put extra sweet potatoes in the oven for the rest of the family, and just add a little butter or seasoning to taste.
Both dishes can be frozen. As your baby grows and starts to chew, you can reduce the amount of time you blend the vegetables so the texture becomes firmer.
